Light and Color - Plein Air and the Sketch

Cornelia Maiwald Cornelia Maiwald's artistic journey is driven by a deep love of color, luminosity and the beauty of nature. She works primarily with oil paints and mixed media drawings and loves the vibrancy and flexibility of these media.

She prefers to work outdoors in nature. This is where her paintings are created full of energy and spontaneity. Each brushstroke becomes a dialogue with the surroundings in which she tries to capture the fleeting. She is particularly fascinated by the challenge of translating the complexity of nature into simplified forms and capturing the essence of a place with strong colors and expressive brushwork.

She developed her drawing practice digitally through "The Addictive Sketcher Movement" by Adebanji Alade PROI. This technique forms the basis for her plein air work and helps her to better understand shapes, light, composition and colors.

Cornelia Maiwald regularly exhibits her works at plein air festivals in Germany. The teachings of Yo Rühmer, a well-known plein air painter, have greatly influenced her and deepened her connection to the landscape.

With her pictures she wants to invite viewers to perceive the beauty of the world around them more consciously and to discover the small wonders of everyday life.
